Is the Old Testament contrary to the New Testament?

The tenth question in our catechism is:
“Is the Old Testament contrary to the New Testament?”
The answer is:
“No, the Old Testament is not contrary to the New. In both the Old and New Testaments, everlasting life is offered by Christ, who is the only mediator between God and man, being both God and man.”
