Does the Bible teach that clergy should be celibate?

December 14, 2025 Day 348
The fiftieth question in our catechism is:
“Does the Bible teach that clergy should be celibate?”
The answer is:
“No. Bishops, Priests (i.e., Presbyters), and Deacons are not commanded by God’s law to make promises to remain single, or to abstain from marriage.”
cf. 1 Corinthians 9:5 and also 1 Timothy 3:2 and also 1 Timothy 4:1-3 as well as Article 32.
