What is baptism?

The thirtieth question in our catechism is:
“What is baptism?”
The answer is:
“Baptism is a sign of Christian profession, and also a sign of regeneration. Those who are baptised are grafted into the church. The promises of forgiveness of sin and of our adoption to be the children of God by the Holy Spirit are visibly signed and sealed by baptism.”
